Siddhartha Basu - Senior Economist
Siddhartha is a Senior Economist at Alma. Having operated in diverse policy contexts across Asia and Africa, he brings substantial experience to the table in applied and development economics.
Before joining our London office, Siddhartha served as a Policy Economist at LSE’s International Growth Centre. In that role, he was mainly concerned with private sector development and the political economy in fragile and conflict-affected states. His work to improve state effectiveness in countries like Myanmar, Sierra Leone and Yemen allowed him to build his skills in collecting data and undertaking analysis in even the most challenging research conditions.
Siddhartha holds an MRes from the University of Bristol, before which he completed an MSc in Economics at the University of Manchester. He also earned a BSc in Economics (with honours) at the University of Nottingham.
Aside from economics, music is Siddhartha’s great love. An enthusiastic guitar player and singer, he might have the mind of a scientist, but an artist’s heart.
