An exciting opportunity has arisen as we are looking for a Social Researcher fluent in Welsh to join the team. We are open to receiving applications from individuals with varying experience levels. More seasoned candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in the various public policy areas that Alma Economics works in. You'll also be expected to manage complex research projects and oversee the work of a wider team. Less experienced candidates will get opportunities to build on their research capabilities over time while working on exciting projects from day one as part of a supportive team.

The role

As a Social Researcher at Alma Economics, you will play an integral role in designing and implementing our qualitative research projects, including interviews, surveys, focus groups, desk-based research, and fieldwork. You will also be responsible for engaging stakeholders and contributing to the company's long-term strategy decisions. Along with overseeing a portfolio of projects geared towards delivering outstanding outputs for our clients, you will also play a pivotal role in expanding our presence in Wales, the UK and internationally.

We are considering various working arrangements for this role, so candidates who are interested in a part-time role are welcome to submit their application as well.

As we welcome candidates with varying levels of seniority, the specific responsibilities of the role, the remuneration package and working arrangements will vary depending on the individual's professional experience, academic background, and preferences.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead on the conceptualisation and development of key social research projects

  • Carry out primary data collection (particularly interviews, surveys, focus groups)

  • Recruit suitable research participants depending on project needs

  • Engage with stakeholders and clients

  • Review existing research evidence

  • Draft reports

  • Prepare high quality content to support bids and tender submissions

Requirements

  • University-level degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., psychology, social policy, sociology, anthropology, political science etc.). A Master’s degree or PhD would be a plus but is not essential

  • Fluency in Welsh or native speaker. Excellent report writing skills

  • Senior level candidates must demonstrate experience working on public policy or other areas of interest such as education, health and social care, public finance, and the environment

Desirable skills

  • Project management skills

  • Prior experience managing research teams

  • Experience in mixed methods projects

Location details
